About
Debra Ann Reilly is a contemporary ethereal abstract artist native to NYC & currently resides close by in NJ. Through her highly textured, light-drenched canvases, she explores the delicate intersection of memory, emotion, & urban nature. Her work distills the frenetic pulse of the city into serene, luminous horizons that invite quiet introspection. Debra creates mostly oil paintings or other mixed media, & enjoys photography, plus she has worked in digital painting. Debra paints primarily from dreams, memory, imagination or inspiration. she gravitated toward the tactility of paints early on at age 5, when she painted a life-size portrait of herself in kindergarten. Decades later, She refined her signature technique by embracing the fluid, forgiving nature of oils & captures the elusive, dreamlike moments that are so often swallowed by the relentless pace of city life. Debra channels the ambient glow of twilight, the reflection of raindrops at dawn on slicked highways. the fleeting stillness found in her ethereal style focuses on color resonance, ambient light, & gestural movement, creating breathing paintings that feel both completely otherworldly & deeply tethered to the human experience. In 2003, a gallery in Soho, NYC dubbed her “the ethereal artist” noting her work being dreamlike & luminescent because Debra had painted a beautiful ethereal pastel tribal mask in turquoise & pastels. Debra’s work has been featured in many exhibitions across the country & the planetarium in Long Island. Her paintings are frequently acquired by private collectors across the United States. Debra’s work has evolved into many different palettes of colors depending on the subject & the moon - her styles can be as varied as her pallets of colors depending on her mood.
